Australian music devotees AndrĂĄs and Instant Peterson spotlight overlooked avant-pop and electronic works from 80s and 90s antipodean artists and outsiders. The pair mined archives, bookstores, private collections and convenience stores, tracing a minor history passed through friends, radio station 3RRRâs library and often the artists themselves.
Renowned mixed media artist Maria Kozic opens with the downbeat Trust Me, built with Philip Brophy who reappears via âââ, contributing a score piece from his divisive film Salt, Saliva, Sperm and Sweat. Other interlinked figures include David Chesworthâs Whadya Want?, Philip Jacksonâs The Couch (revived from Fast Forwardâs cassette fanzine) and Poets of the Machineâs Grace Jones-inspired techno-wave. Foot and Mouthâs morbid electronics preface their rise as punk heroes God, while Mumbo Jumboâs âWind It Upâ enjoys its dancefloor revival. The setâs breadth extends to Sydney dub outfit The Igniters, Mixâs playful synth-funk, and Cameron Allan with Graham Bidstrupâs soundtrack to the petrol-charged ozploitation film that lends the compilation its name.Genre: Electronic
