Stay Hungry is the album that turned Twisted Sister from club favourites into MTV-era heavy metal stars. Released in 1984, it fused hard rock, glam attitude and singalong choruses into a sharply commercial sound without losing the band’s sneering edge. Driven by the enduring anthems We’re Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock, the record made Dee Snider’s confrontational style and the group’s larger-than-life image impossible to ignore. Its crossover success helped define mid-1980s metal’s pop appeal, while tracks such as Burn in Hell and The Price showed the band could balance fist-pumping spectacle with a heavier, more dramatic bite.
