Sam Cooke is often described as the inventor of soul music and probably the best soul singer of the 20th century. He was the first black US musician to succeed in inspiring the white middle class and yet he was not accused of selling his soul. He also made history as the first black musician to own his own recording studio and label. Night Beat became his ultimate breakthrough and the songs on this album can still be heard on the radio today.
After previously less convincing albums, Night Beat has a completely different atmosphere. Although officially a soul album is primarily a blues mood to feel and one has the feeling to hear how the musicians, long after the guests left, play for themselves again. The album focuses on the beauty of Cooke's voice and the musical accompaniment is comparatively reserved.Genre: Soul & Funk
