    Flowers of Evil is a heavyweight blues-rock statement from Mountain, sharpening the band’s sound into something tougher and more focused. Released in 1971, it followed the success of Climbing! and found Leslie West, Felix Pappalardi, Corky Laing and Steve Knight leaning into thick guitar riffs, hard-driving rhythms and Southern-leaning grit. The album is best known for ‘Mississippi Queen’, the breakout track that became Mountain’s signature song and a hard-rock standard. With its muscular mix of blues, hard rock and psychedelia, Flowers of Evil helped define the early-1970s heavy rock sound and confirmed Mountain as one of the era’s most powerful bands.
