Talk Is Cheap is a sharp, soulful solo statement from Keith Richards that proved he was far more than the Rolling Stones’ second guitarist. Released in 1988, the album reunited him with co-writer and producer Steve Jordan and drew on New York session players, giving Richards room to explore stripped-back rock, swampy grooves and smoky ballads without surrendering his trademark bite. Songs such as Take It So Hard and Make No Mistake showed how naturally his gravelly voice and open-tuned guitar writing could stand on their own. Widely regarded as one of his strongest solo records, it helped define his post-Stones identity.
