The Beast Inside is a confident high-point of early-90s British indie rock, sharpening Inspiral Carpets’ trademark Farfisa-organ rush into a more focused and muscular album. Released in 1991, it followed the success of their debut and showed the band broadening their sound without losing the bright, motorik energy that set them apart in the Manchester scene. Built around strong hooks and Claude Besson’s distinctive vocals, the record balances swagger with melancholy and includes some of the group’s best-known material, including Caravan and Please Be Cruel. It remains one of the band's most admired statements.
