Hawkwind’s self-titled debut is a foundational space-rock statement, blending psychedelic drift, heavy riffing and electronic unease into a sound that pointed British rock towards the cosmos. Released in 1970, the album introduced the band’s raw, exploratory style and helped establish the template that would make them one of the key names in space rock. Tracks such as Hurry On Sundown and Mirror of Illusion show an early balance between folk-tinged melodies, repetition and flighty improvisation, with Paranoia split into two parts adding to the record’s hallucinatory edge.
