Eric Burdon Declares “War” is a brash, genre-crossing debut that introduced the partnership between former Animals singer Eric Burdon and the band War. Released in 1970, it fused psychedelic rock, soul and funk into a loose, experimental sound that helped define the early West Coast crossover between rock and rhythm and blues. The album’s best-known moment, “Spill the Wine”, became an international hit and set the tone for Burdon’s move away from British blues towards heavier, more fluid American grooves.
