On The Third Day is a strong early statement of Electric Light Orchestra’s symphonic rock vision, pushing the band further from their Beatles-inspired roots into grand, more confidently arranged territory. Released in 1973, the album balanced hard-edged rock with orchestral colour, showcasing Jeff Lynne’s growing command of melody, studio layering and dramatic dynamics. It also produced one of ELO’s most recognisable early songs in Ma-Ma-Ma Belle, a muscular highlight that helped establish the group’s commercial identity.
