CCS’s debut C.C.S. is a striking slice of early-1970s British rock, turning blues and rock standards into something heavier, brasher and more adventurous. Fronted by guitarist Alexis Korner and powered by a punchy brass section, the album reworks material such as Bo Diddley’s “Boom Boom”, “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” with a hard-edged, big-band force that set it apart from straightforward cover versions. Issued in 1970, it became known for bridging blues, rock and prog sensibilities, and for showing how familiar songs could be remodelled into a new, muscular sound.
