Saved is Bob Dylan’s unapologetic gospel statement, pushing his late-1970s faith period into a more urgent, band-driven form. Released in 1980, the album follows Slow Train Coming and deepens Dylan’s engagement with gospel, rhythm and blues and rock and roll through fervent vocals, choir-style backing and hard-driving arrangements. Recorded with a seasoned touring band and shaped by producer Jerry Wexler’s soul and R&B sensibility, it transforms spiritual conviction into direct, often ecstatic performance. Though divisive on release, Saved is now widely regarded as one of the boldest documents of Dylan’s late-career reinvention.
