Air Supply’s self-titled debut introduced the soft-rock formula that would define the duo’s career: close harmonies, gentle melodies and an emphasis on ballads over muscle. Issued in 1976, the album began the partnership of Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock, whose contrasting voices gave their songs an immediate emotional pull. Best known for the early Australian hit “Love and Other Bruises”, the record shows the group already leaning towards the melodic, radio-friendly style that later carried them to international success. It is an early statement of intent from one of pop’s most enduring harmony acts.
